PUNE: PMRDA and MahaMetro have submitted project reports about metro routes on two similar routes. Hence, it was decided that only one organisation will work on the route. Now, PMRDA has decided to appoint a consultant to carry out a study whether the proposed route will be profitable or not. After the consultant’s report is available, a decision will be taken about which organisation will execute the project.
PMRDA has proposed two routes: Shivaji Nagar to Loni Kalbhor and Swargate to Saswad PMRDA had got the project report prepared by DMRC. At the same time, MahaMetro has proposed Khadakwasla to Kharadi route. It includes phases like Khadakwasla to Swargate, Swargate to Hadapsar, Hadapsar to Kharadi and Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor. MahaMetro had got the project report made by a private consultant. Both the organisations had presented the project reports to the PMC. Both the proposed routes are common from Swargate-Pulgate-Hadapsar. Further, both the routes are going to Loni Kalbhor. Hence, both the organisations have prepared reports on almost similar routes.
The divisional commissioner had issued orders in a PUMTA meeting that only one organisation should work on similar routes. He had instructed PMRDA to appoint a consult to implement this project on PPP basis. Hene, PMRDA has taken steps to appoint a consultant who will examine the economic feasibility of the project. The consultant will examine possibility of generating other sources of revenue apart from revenue earned through sale of tickets.
MahaMetro Director Atul Gadgil said, “MahaMetro and PMRDA had prepared project reports about two similar metro routes. It was decided in a PUMTA meeting that only one organisation will execute the project. PMRDA will take a decision about executing the project after examining the financial viability. If it does not execute the project, then MahaMetro will do it.”
Rinaz Pathan, Superintending Engineer, PMRDA said, “There is a proposal about MahaMetro executing the metro project on Swargate to Pulgate route and expand the route from Ramwadi to Magarpatta. PMRDA can execute the metro project on Loni Kalbhor and Saswad routes. A consultant will be appointed and the financial viability will be examined. Later, the final decision will be taken.”
