Pune News : In a significant development in the ₹3,676-crore Mephedrone (MD) drug bust case, a Pune court has extended the police custody of three key suspects, Bhimaji Parshuram Sable (46), Yuvraj Babruwan Bhujbal (41), and Sunil Barman, shedding light on the complexities of the ongoing narcotics investigation.
Court Decision:
On Thursday, a Pune court granted an extension of police custody for Bhimaji Parshuram Sable and Yuvraj Babruwan Bhujbal until March 4. Sunil Barman, who was arrested in West Bengal, will remain in police custody until March 9. The decision was made based on the remand application submitted by Police Inspector Shabbir Shaikh of unit I of the anti-narcotics cell of the Pune crime branch before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMDC).
Investigation Focus:
The remand application highlighted the necessity of custodial interrogation to explore the suspects’ connections with others involved in the case. It also emphasized the importance of uncovering their potential involvement in national and international narcotics trade networks. Specifically, in Barman’s case, the police expressed the need to identify his financiers and contacts who facilitated the drug trade within the country.
Cyber Expert Involvement:
To delve deeper into the case, the police mentioned the involvement of a cyber expert who would extract information from the seized mobile phones. This move is expected to provide crucial insights into the intricacies of the alleged drug network.
Background:
The arrests in connection with the Kurkumbh raid involved Bhimaji alias Anil Parshuram Sable, a pharma plant owner from Shrigonda in Ahmednagar district, currently residing in Chinchwad, and Yuvraj Baban Bhujbal, a chemical engineer residing in Dombivli.
