PUNE: The Bharati Vidyapeeth police have arrested the main accused in connection with chain snatching incidents which have taken place in the limits of Vishrantwadi, Yerawada, Bharati Vidyapeeth and Kondhwa police stations. He committed these thefts with his friend from Thane, whom he had invited to Pune. His arrest has led to five crimes coming to light and the police have seized ornaments worth ₹1.15 lakh, said DCP Smartana Patil at a press conference.
The accused has been identified as Sagar Sandeep Sharma (20), a resident of Bibvewadi. His accomplice from Thane, Prathamesh Alias Pillya Prakash Thamke, a resident of Thane and another person are absconding and the police are searching for them.
On October 12, the gold chain of a woman who had gone for a morning walk at Katraj Lake, was robbed and a complaint had been lodged at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station. The police examined 22 CCTVs in the area and they realised that the accused was Sagar Sandip Sharma. Policemen Mitesh Chormale, Abhi Chaudhary and Avdhoot Jamdade got the information that the accused was going to a place on October 17 to play dandia. They arrested him under the guidance of senior officials. When he was quizzed, he admitted committing many thefts with his Thane friend Pilya Thamke. The police have got information about five crimes.
The action was taken under the guidance of CP Ritesh Kumar, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Pravinkumar Patil, DCP Smartana Patil, ACP Narayan Shirgaonkar by Sr PI Vinayak Gaikwad, PI Vijay Puranik, PI Girish Dighavkar, PI Girish Dighavkar, API Amol Rasal, PSI Dhiraj Gupta and policemen Shailendra Sathe, Chetan Gore, Mahesh Baravkar, Mangesh Pawar, Nilesh Khairmode, Avdhoot Jamdade, Nilesh Dhamdhere, Sachin Sarpale, Ashish Gaikwad, Rahul Tambe, Harshal Shinde, Dhanaji Dhotre, Mitesh Chormale, Abhi Chowdhary, Abhi Jadhav and Vikram Sawant.
