Pune: Seven arrested for manhandling a policeman, stoning police vehicle

Pune: The Wanawadi police have arrested seven people for manhandling a police on patrol duty and stoning the CR mobile van of the police in Ramtekdi.

The incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday at Vande Mataram Chowk in Ramtekdi.

Policeman Abhijit Balasaheb Chavan lodged a complaint at the Wanawadi Police Station in this regard. Abhijit Ashok Kakade (19), a resident of Ramtekdi, Balya Gaikwad, a resident of Kondhwa, Nitin Patole, a resident of Ramtekdi, Mahesh Shinde, Bala, Pyari alias Prashant Kamble and Pappusingh Gurbachansing Kalyani (19), a resident of Hadapsar, have been arrested. A case has been registered against them under sections 353, 143, 147, 149, 427, 336, 34 of the IPC and under provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act and the Criminal Law Amendment Act.

According to the police, complainant Abhijit Chavan and his colleague API Jagtap were patrolling in the Bhairoba Nala area. On receiving a call, they arrived at Vande Mataram Chowk in Ramtekdi. They saw that the accused were damaging carts of fruit vendors. The complainant tried to stop them when one of the accused pushed the complainant. They also damaged various vehicles parked in the vicinity and terrorised people. Accused Abhijit Kakade hit a stone on the CR mobile van and broke its windshield. The accused obstructed the complainant, who was carrying out the government work. Hence, a case has been registered against them.
