In an effort to provide enhanced connectivity to passengers utilizing the Metro train system in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) introduced the Metro Feeder service. The initiative has garnered a positive response, prompting the PMPML to increase the frequency of several routes due to the growing demand from passengers.
For the month of September, the PMPML reported revenues of INR 23,82,008 within Pune city, with an additional INR 2,88,594 generated in Pimpri Chinchwad through Metro feeder buses. Notably, the Metro Shuttle 2 route, which connects Deccan and Warje Malwadi, has recorded the highest Earning per Kilometer, bringing in INR 59.90 per kilometer. Conversely, the Metro Shuttle route 37, which spans from Pimpri Metro Station to Kivle village, recorded the lowest earnings per kilometer at INR 5.16.
Currently, PMPML operates 26 buses as part of its Metro feeder service, with 22 buses serving Pune and 4 serving Pimpri Chinchwad. Responding to lower passenger demand on the Pimpri Metro Station to Kivle village route (Metro Shuttle 37), PMPML made the decision to discontinue services on this route. Instead, they introduced a new route connecting Pimpri Metro Station to Akurdi Railway Station, effective from October 11. Furthermore, the transport authority has plans to establish bus connectivity between the Airport and Ramwadi Metro station, particularly as the metro services expand beyond Ruby Hall Clinic Metro Station.
