PMC’s Unprecedented Move: 32 Properties in Pune Up for Auction Over Tax Defaults

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is gearing up for a groundbreaking auction on February 5, with 32 properties set to go under the hammer due to outstanding property tax payments, amounting to a combined value of Rs 16.02 crore. These properties, mainly commercial establishments, are situated in upscale neighborhoods including Lohegaon, Mundhwa, Baner, and Balewadi.

Property owners facing the auction have the opportunity to avert the sale by settling their overdue taxes before the scheduled event. This marks the first instance where PMC is resorting to property auctions as a consequence of persistent defaults despite repeated reminders.

Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar affirmed that the move is well within the legal powers of the civic body. The auction is scheduled to take place at PMC’s main building from 12 pm to 3 pm. The selected properties, strategically located in high-end localities, will serve as a litmus test to gauge the response to this novel approach.

The list of properties includes shops, office premises, open plots, and a factory shed spread across Lohegaon, Balewadi, Baner, Mundhwa, Kharadi, Bibwewadi, Dhayari, Wanowrie, and Dhanori.

Ajeet Deshmukh, responsible for the civic property tax department, advised interested bidders to register on the official e-auction portal: https://eauction.gov.in.

The valuation for each property has been meticulously determined, with the bidding amount not falling below the fixed valuation. Prospective bidders are required to deposit 1% of the property amount in advance by January 31.

The announcement of eligible bidders is slated for February 4, with the winning bidder obligated to pay 20% of the total amount within two days of the auction. The remaining 80% must be settled within 15 days.

In the event that the property owner clears all dues and auction-related costs within the stipulated 15 days, the winning bidder will be reimbursed the amount initially deposited with PMC.
