PMC Sets Deadline for Land Acquisition for Ganeshkhind Road Flyover: Completion Expected by September 15

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a target date of September 15 for the completion of land acquisition and road widening efforts related to the double-decker flyover project on Ganeshkhind Road. This ambitious initiative aims to address the traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the area, benefitting commuters and the overall urban infrastructure.

The double-decker flyover is a vital component of the metro line 3 project, which is designed to connect Hinjewadi, a prominent IT hub, with Shivajinagar, the central business district. The ambitious project is expected to enhance public transportation and alleviate traffic issues in this corridor.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar recently convened a meeting to assess the progress of the double-decker flyover project. During the meeting, he emphasized the importance of timely land acquisition and road widening, which are critical prerequisites for the commencement of the construction phase.

The current width of Ganeshkhind Road falls short of the required dimensions stipulated in the development plan (DP). According to the DP, the road should be 45 meters wide, while the existing width is only 36 meters. In response, the PMC has initiated the process of road widening by engaging with private landowners and government establishments for land acquisition.

Out of a total of 21 landowners, the PMC has already acquired land from 16 parties. Discussions and negotiations for land acquisition are still ongoing with entities like Government Polytechnic, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), National Information Centre (NIC), Reserve Bank of India, and two private landowners.

To accommodate the road widening, 4.5 meters of land is required on each side of the road. The PMC plans to construct a compound wall after the widening process and is also considering the removal of certain trees in alignment with the project’s requirements. Tenders for the road widening work have been floated, and the PMC is committed to completing the task by September 15.

Dinkar Gojare, Superintendent Engineer of the PMC road department, expressed the organization’s dedication to meeting this deadline. He highlighted that the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has set an August 15, 2024 deadline to complete a portion of the flyover, which will subsequently be open to vehicular traffic.

The double-decker flyover itself will stretch 881 meters and feature six lanes. The project also includes various ramps for efficient access. As part of the metro line 3 development, this initiative holds the potential to significantly transform the urban transportation landscape in Pune, offering commuters enhanced convenience and connectivity. The Pune Municipal Corporation’s proactive approach to infrastructure development underscores the city’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents.
