Navle Bridge Blockade: Maratha Reservation Protesters Demand Action

“Maratha Reservation Protesters Stage Shutdown of Navle Bridge, Paralyze Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway”

Pune, 31st October 2023: In a strong display of protest for the Maratha reservation, the Maratha community has effectively shut down the Navle Bridge in Pune. This act of civil disobedience is part of a broader wave of demonstrations and protests taking place across the state, with the youth taking a prominent role in these demonstrations.

The demand for the Maratha reservation has been a long-standing issue, and despite the government’s initial promise of a 30-day resolution period, 47 days have passed with no definitive action taken. To draw attention to their plight, Manoj Jarange-Patil has been on a fast unto death at Antarvali Sarati for the past seven days. This extreme measure highlights the desperation of the Maratha community in their call for Maratha reservation.

In addition to shutting down the Navle Bridge, protesters have resorted to burning tires on the roads, effectively halting traffic and creating significant disruptions in the region. The series of protests, which includes hunger strikes, road blockades, and calls for a city ban on politicians, has engulfed the entire Pune district.

Speaking to [News Outlet], DCP (Zone 3) Suhail Sharma said, “We have managed to open one side while the other side of the bridge is still closed.”
