Mercury Drops: Pune’s Minimum Temperature Plummet Signals Winter’s Arrival

As winter tightens its grip, Pune experiences a dip in temperatures with Shivajinagar recording its lowest December temperature at 14°C on Thursday morning. The cold spell extends across the city, with Pashan registering 14.7 degrees, Lohegaon at 16 degrees, and Chinchwad at 18.3 degrees.

An official from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Pune anticipates clear skies in the coming days. While early morning fog may persist, a northerly wind component is forecasted to reach northern and central Maharashtra from December 18 onwards, signaling a drop in temperatures. Residents are advised to keep their winter clothing handy as the chill intensifies.

According to a weather expert, Shivajinagar’s minimum temperatures are expected to exhibit variability in the coming week. Temperatures are projected to range between 13 and 15 degrees on December 15 and 16, slightly increasing to 15 to 17 degrees on December 17. Towards the end of December, around the 20th and 21st, temperatures are likely to drop again, hovering around 14–16 degrees.

The expert suggests that a significant western disturbance might impact the northern plains of India, including Delhi NCR, bringing substantial rainfall around Christmas. Pune and Nashik may experience a further decrease in temperature following this disruption.
