Traffic Plan to Ease Ganeshkhind Road Congestion Takes Effect Today

Pune News : In an effort to ease traffic congestion on Ganeshkhind Road, the City Traffic Police have implemented a new traffic plan, effective from 12 pm on Monday, March 4. The move comes in response to the ongoing flyover and Pune Metro works in the area. Notably, emergency services vehicles are exempted from the new regulations.

The decision follows a visit by Pune Commissioner of Police, Amitesh Kumar, to University Chowk on February 29, where he reviewed the traffic situation and expressed his dissatisfaction. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-traffic) Shashikant Borate issued the orders on Saturday, detailing changes aimed at streamlining vehicular movement and preventing potential hazards during ongoing infrastructure developments.

Heavy vehicles are now directed to unload goods at godown facilities located on Pune-Ahmednagar highway, with smaller vehicles tasked to transport these goods into Pune. Additionally, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been requested to install height barriers to prevent tall vehicles from passing through Ganeshkhind Road during the night, especially as girder work is set to commence at University Chowk.

A 24-hour ban on all types of goods carriers will be enforced on specific stretches, leading to SPPU Chowk. Three-wheeler goods carriers, light commercial vehicles, and slow-moving vehicles will face restrictions from 8 am to 12 pm and from 4 pm to 10 pm. Changes in vehicular movement have also been introduced to mitigate congestion issues.

Under the new order, vehicles traveling from SPPU Chowk to Senapati Bapat (SB) Road will not be allowed to turn right at SB Road junction. Instead, they will make a U-turn from Cosmos Bank to reach the junction and then turn left onto SB Road. Similarly, vehicles heading to Range Hills from Shivajinagar via Ganeshkhind Road will not be permitted to turn right from Range Hills Corner. They will need to take a U-turn from Cosmos Bank to reach Range Hills Corner and then turn left.

In a related development, starting March 5, the police have announced restricted movement for all types of goods carriers in specific locations, intending to ease congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow within Pune city.
