Marriage 2.0: Pune’s Digital Revolution in E-Marriage Registrations

In recent times, Pune has witnessed a significant increase in e-marriage registrations, marking a positive shift in the way marriages are officially documented in the city. This shift is attributed to the introduction of a new online system, known as “registration marriage 2.0,” which simplifies the process and has gained traction, especially in Pune.

A New Era of Marriage Registrations

The traditional marriage registration process in Pune often involved a two-month waiting period, causing inconvenience for many couples. However, the registration and stamp department has now revolutionized the process by introducing an online system for conducting marriage registrations.

E-Marriages on the Rise

Since the introduction of this new system, Pune has seen a notable increase in e-marriage registrations. In fact, out of the total 1,919 online marriages registered in the state, 938 of them have been in Pune alone. This surge can be attributed to the city’s thriving IT sector and its willingness to embrace technology in various aspects of life, including marriage registration.

Streamlined Process

The “registration marriage 2.0” system allows couples to give notice online and choose a marriage date within two months from the second day after the notice period expires. This streamlined process has made it more convenient for couples to complete their marriage registration.

Expanding Access

While this facility is currently available in Pune, Solapur, and Nagar districts since its launch in June, the online registration process has now been extended to the entire state. A total of 36 marriage registration offices across the state have been integrated with the online system, ensuring a seamless and efficient registration process.

Impressive Statistics

Abhishek Deshmukh, Deputy Inspector General of Registration (Computer), has confirmed the expansion of this online registration process. In 2022, a significant number of online marriages took place in the state, totaling 36,000. Out of these, Pune accounted for 7,900 marriages, while Mumbai recorded 7,600 marriages. The remaining districts in the state witnessed a total of 20,500 online marriages.

The Impact of Technology

This surge in e-marriage registrations reflects the increasing role of technology in streamlining administrative processes. Pune’s pioneering efforts in this regard have set a positive example for the rest of the state.
