IMD Pune Set to Host Unique Meteorological Exhibition in Celebration of 150 Years

Pune, India – The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shivajinavar, Pune, is gearing up to host a distinctive Meteorological Exhibition on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. This exhibition is not only a celebration of National Science Day but also marks a significant milestone—the 150-year anniversary of the India Meteorological Department, which commenced its journey in January 1875 and will complete a year of celebrations in January 2025.

The year-long events for the 150-year anniversary, initiated on January 15, 2024, will continue until January 15, 2025. As part of these celebrations, the department is organizing various events throughout the year, with the Meteorological Exhibition being a highlight on February 28.

All students are cordially invited to visit the department between 10:30 am and 5:00 pm to gain extensive knowledge in the field of meteorology. Dr. Sudhir Kumar, a Scientist at the India Meteorological Department, Pune, shared insights into the exhibition’s offerings, stating, “There will be a film show about the Expedition to Antarctica, and students can visit the model observatory. Since 1987, we have been organizing exhibitions for students on National Science Day, providing updates on atmospheric science, showcasing current weather monitoring instruments, and presenting the latest advancements in aviation instruments.”

The exhibition will offer students a glimpse into the updated versions of various instruments used in atmospheric research. Activities related to weather prediction, applications of climate science, and IMD’s contributions to different sectors will also be discussed, providing an interactive and informative experience for attendees.

Weather enthusiasts and students alike are encouraged to attend this exhibition, where a wealth of knowledge will be shared by students and professors from the India Meteorological Department.
