High Court Dismisses Petition Against Mahalunge-Maan Town Planning Scheme; Development to Pick Up Pace

The High Court has recently rejected a petition challenging the Mahalunge-Maan Town Planning Scheme, which was introduced by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) in 2017. The scheme covers an area of 250.50 hectares in Mahalunge-Man and aims to streamline development in the region.

The petition was filed by Chandrakant Kolekar and 54 other landowners who were part of the Town Planning Scheme. They sought compensation for land acquisition under the 2013 Act and raised several other issues, attempting to nullify the town planning scheme altogether. However, the High Court’s order in September 2022 clarified that court approval is required for land possession within the scheme area.

After thorough assessment of hearings, PMRDA’s affidavits, and relevant legal provisions, the High Court delivered its verdict on August 2, 2023, dismissing the petition. This decision paves the way for expediting the development under the town planning scheme.

With the petition out of the way, the collaboration between landowners and the authority can now be more productive. Swift plot-wise demarcation and on-site stone plantation can be facilitated through this joint effort, leading to a streamlined and efficient implementation of the town planning scheme. The development in Mahalunge-Maan is set to pick up pace, benefiting both the residents and the region’s progress.
