Ghorpadi’s Traffic Woes to Ease as Railway Bridge Nears March Inauguration

In a welcome development for the residents of Ghorpadi, the construction of the Thopate Chowk railway bridge is in its final stages, with plans for its official opening during the second week of March. To expedite the remaining tasks and ensure the bridge is operational before the Lok Sabha election code of conduct comes into effect, the construction company has received specific instructions.

The completion and opening of this strategically located bridge are anticipated to address the longstanding issue of traffic congestion in Ghorpadi. The area has grappled with traffic jams caused by the Solapur and Miraj railway line’s gate, where over 200 trains pass through daily. The impending inauguration signifies a crucial step in improving transportation and resolving the traffic woes faced by residents.

The chronic problem of significant traffic congestion during peak hours, impacting drivers, school students, and citizens, prompted the construction of the flyover. Former Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar acknowledged the challenges faced by local citizens and granted permission for the flyover’s construction.

Initiated in 2019 with an initially projected three-year timeline for completion, the construction extended beyond four years. In response to the urgency preceding the Lok Sabha elections, efforts have intensified, and the inauguration of the flyover is scheduled for March 8 or 10.

Srinivasa Bonala, Head of the Project Department, provided a status update, stating that the railway flyover in Ghorpadi is in its final stages. Remaining tasks, including asphalting and street lighting, are expected to be completed within the next fifteen days. Simultaneously, work on staircases is underway and is projected to conclude within a month, providing significant relief to the community.
