In a distressing incident on 19th February 2024, a significant fire erupted in a house located in Chawand village, Junnar taluka. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, although the house suffered extensive damage and was completely consumed by the flames.
Swift Response by Pune Fire Brigade
The alarm was raised around 1:30 pm on Monday, notifying the PMC Fire Brigade about the fire outbreak in Khadakwadi (Kukdeshwar), Chawand village, approximately 20 km from Junnar taluka. Subhash Jadhav, Station Duty Officer at PMC Fire Brigade, provided insights, stating that the house belonged to Ganpat Joshi, and at the time of the incident, a tenant, a laborer, was away for work.
Despite the intensity of the fire, with valuables like gold and cash worth Rs 40 to 50 thousand being consumed, the prompt response by the fire brigade brought the situation under control within approximately 20 minutes.
Collaborative Efforts in Firefighting Operation
Subhash Jadhav further disclosed that fire officials and vehicles from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) collaborated in the firefighting operation to ensure a comprehensive response.
As of now, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are underway to determine the factors leading to the blaze.
