Financial Fraud Exposed: Pune Couple Cheats Youth Seeking Government Jobs of Rs 8.5 Lakhs

Pune: A financial fraud of Rs 8.5 lakhs has been unearthed in Pune, where a couple duped aspiring youth by promising government jobs in the Railways, Pune Municipal Corporation, and Government Bank. The case came to light when Jahangir Sattar Sheikh, a resident of Patil Estate, Shivajinagar, filed a complaint at Chaturshringi Police Station on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Kamraj K. Ghodke and his wife, Ujwala Kamraj Ghodke, residents near Raju Mitra Mandal, Senapati Bapat Road, Pune, allegedly targeted two sons of the plaintiff and two sons of his brother. The fraud unfolded between August 2020 and the present, with transactions occurring near Chandralok Society on Senapati Road and at Wadarwadi.

According to the police, the modus operandi involved the accused enticing the victims with promises of securing government jobs. Kamraj Ghodke allegedly demanded money, assuring employment opportunities in Pune Municipal Corporation, ticket collector positions in railways, and government bank roles. Succumbing to these promises, the plaintiff paid a total of six lakh rupees to Kamraj through a cheque.

The accused, however, deposited the cheque into his wife’s bank account at Fergusson Road and pocketed the money. Unsatisfied with the initial payment, Ghodke allegedly demanded an additional two and a half lakh rupees in cash. Despite the payments, the promised jobs were not materialised, prompting the plaintiff to seek a refund of Rs 8.5 lakhs.

Police sub-inspector Sachin Gadekar is leading the investigation into the case. The complaint highlights the accused’s deceptive practices, alleging that they exploited the financial resources of the four victims without fulfilling their commitment to securing government jobs. The accused couple now face charges under IPC 420 and 34.
