Pune, August 21, 2023 – In a bid to bolster the seamless functioning of the Pune-Howrah Azad Hind Express and Jhelum Express, the Pune Railway Department has initiated a positive change by introducing an additional coach for both trains. This strategic enhancement has resulted in five days of uninterrupted and punctual services, much to the satisfaction of passengers.
These two trains, the Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express and Jhelum Express, bear significant importance within the Pune railway division. However, in the past three years, the Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express had been plagued by recurrent disruptions, including cancellations and persistent delays.
Taking decisive action to address this challenge, the Pune Railway Department embarked on a transformational strategy. Commencing from July 30, the rake of the ‘Jhelum Express’ was repurposed for the ‘Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express’. However, while this alteration intended to enhance one train’s efficiency, it inadvertently led to scheduling complications for the Jhelum Express, causing inconvenience for passengers on both routes. As a result, an influx of complaints about these delays reached the railway authorities.
With an unwavering commitment to the convenience of its passengers, the Pune Railway Department swiftly devised a solution – introducing an additional coach for both trains. From August 13 onwards, the benefits of this measure started to manifest. These extra coaches are being deployed as needed, ensuring that the trains maintain their operational excellence.
Since the integration of these supplementary coaches, the Jhelum Express has been operating on schedule since August 13. Likewise, the Howrah Express experienced timely departures for two consecutive days. Despite facing a minor setback due to an obstruction at Jalgaon, which led to brief delays, the train is projected to regain its punctual rhythm in the imminent days. This strategic addition of an extra coach will play a pivotal role in safeguarding prompt departures for both the Jhelum and Azad Hind Express.
Ramdas Bhise, Central Railway PRO, affirmed, “Trains are now adhering to their schedules following the introduction of new rakes. The Howrah Express encountered minor delays due to maintenance, but this concern will be resolved in the upcoming days.”
