IMD Issues Heatwave Advisory for Vidarbha, Caution Advised in Pune; Rains Expected from April 6

Protecting Against Heat and Planning for Possible Relief in Maharashtra

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding an impending heatwave in districts of Vidarbha, with temperatures anticipated to soar above 40 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Pune, although not under direct threat of a heatwave, is urged to exercise caution as temperatures hover close to the 40-degree mark, with a forecast of rain showers from April 6.

According to IMD officials, districts such as Yavatmal, Chandrapur, and Akola in Vidarbha are likely to experience heatwaves, while regions including Palghar, Thane, Raigad, and Mumbai are expected to endure hot and humid conditions. While Pune remains just below the threshold for a heatwave, the soaring temperatures necessitate vigilance, particularly during peak hours from 11 am to 4 pm.

“Even brief exposure to the sun during these hours can pose significant risks,” emphasized an IMD spokesperson. Anupam Kashyapi, a former head of weather forecasting, stressed the importance of precautionary measures such as staying hydrated and covering up to mitigate heat-related health hazards. He advised opting for light meals to aid in managing the sweltering conditions.

In light of the escalating temperatures, IMD has forecasted the onset of light rainfall in Pune and surrounding areas commencing from April 6. These showers are anticipated to be accompanied by thunder and lightning, offering a potential respite from the oppressive heat.

As Maharashtra braces for the impending heatwave and subsequent rainfall, it becomes imperative for residents to prioritize personal safety and adopt preventive measures to combat the adverse effects of extreme weather conditions.
