Enhanced Patrolling Measures by Railway in Ghat Sections Amid Heavy Rainfall

Pune: With the anticipation of heavy rainfall, the Central Railway has taken proactive measures to ensure passenger safety and operational efficiency. The railway authorities have increased foot patrolling in the crucial Karjat-Lonavla and Kasara-Igatpuri ghat sections. Simultaneously, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has also issued directives to its drivers to remain vigilant while driving buses during sharp showers.

Shivraj Manaspure, the chief public relations officer of Central Railway, informed TOI that dedicated staff members from the electrical, maintenance, and civil departments are actively patrolling the ghat sections. To facilitate their monitoring efforts, cabins have been strategically set up between stations in the ghat area.

The primary objective of this heightened patrolling initiative is to promptly identify and address any potential issues that could arise due to heavy rainfall and its impact on the railway infrastructure. By ensuring regular inspections and vigilance, the railway authorities aim to minimize the risks associated with adverse weather conditions and maintain the safety and reliability of train operations.

The MSRTC has also taken precautionary steps to safeguard its passengers and drivers during inclement weather. Kailas Patil, Pune’s divisional controller of MSRTC, emphasized that drivers have been strictly advised to exercise caution and remain alert while driving in poor visibility conditions. They have been instructed to stop vehicles if visibility is compromised and avoid crossing inundated bridges to avoid any mishaps.
