In an extraordinary initiative, 25 visually impaired students from Pune’s Mamata Andh Anaath Kalyan Kendra are set to embark on a Himalayan trek, organized by the renowned mountaineering organization Giripremi. This thrilling adventure aims to provide a transformative experience for the participants.
Scheduled from May 17 to May 24, 2024, the journey will commence with the students traveling via the Duronto Express train. Prior to the expedition, detailed briefings were conducted with the students and their parents, ensuring informed consent and enthusiastic participation.
Giripremi, committed to youth development, regularly organizes such expeditions. The selected participants, aged between 18 and 25, represent institutions like Modern College and Fergusson College in Pune among the 38 students at the Kendra.
Tushar Kamble, President of Mamata Andh Anaath Kalyan Kendra, expressed, “The students are brimming with excitement for this trek, marking their first venture beyond Pune. While they’ve explored local landmarks such as Sinhagad Fort and Raigad Fort, this opportunity to witness the Himalayan beauty is truly special, courtesy of the NGO Giripremi.”
Due to health concerns like diabetes and hypertension, only 25 out of the 38 students are participating. Nonetheless, the Kendra ensures that all necessary gear, including warm clothing, footwear, and backpacks, is provided with funding support.
Professional trainers will equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge before the expedition, ensuring a safe and memorable journey amidst the breathtaking Himalayan landscapes.
