PUNE: The administration of Sassoon Hospital is under a cloud after the escape of drug smuggler Lalit Patil from police custody. There are allegations that prisoners are being given special treatment in the hospital. Now, Congress MLA Ravindra Dhangekar has made a demand to the police commissioner that an FIR should be registered against the dean of the hospital.
Lalit Patil was undergoing medical treatment in ward number 16 of Sassoon Hospital since last few months. Patil was carrying out smuggling of drugs from the hospital. Drugs worth ₹2.25 crore had been seized at the entrance of Sassoon Hospital. Later, Lalit Patil had immediately fled Sassoon Hospital and fingers are being pointed at the police and the administration of Sassoon Hospital.
The administration of Sassoon Hospital has appointed a three-member panel. However, secrecy is being observed about the report. Meanwhile Dhangekar had visited the hospital and visited various wards. Now, Dhangekar has made a demand to the police chief about registering an FIR.
Dhangekar said that Lalit Patil, the accused in a drug smuggling case, was undergoing treatment at Sassoon Hospital since many months. It has come to light that Patil was carrying out smuggling of drugs from there. The six doctors treating Patil was trying to extend Patil’s stay in the hospital by giving various excuses. Since aiding a criminal is also considered a crime, along with six doctors, the dean and medical superintendent of Sassoon Hospital should be made the co-accused.
MLA Ravindra Dhangekar said, “The doctors who helped Lalit Patil, who is destroying the young generation through the medium of drugs, are also equally guilty. Hence, an FIR should be registered by making the six doctors and dean of Sassoon Hospital as the co-accused.”
