Doctors Arrested in Pune Porsche Case for Tampering Blood Report

Pune: In a shocking development in the Pune Porsche accident case, two doctors have been arrested for allegedly manipulating the blood test report of a 17-year-old accused. The teenager, son of a prominent Pune realtor, was reportedly heavily intoxicated during the accident, which tragically resulted in the deaths of two 24-year-old software engineers.

Sources indicate that Dr. Ajay Tawre and Dr. Shri Hari Harnor, both affiliated with Sassoon Hospital, have been detained by the Pune Crime Branch. Dr. Tawre, who heads the forensic lab at the state-run hospital, and Dr. Harnor are accused of falsifying the blood alcohol content results to protect the accused.

The Incident and Nationwide Outrage

The incident, involving late-night reckless driving by the teenager, has ignited a nationwide outcry. The arrest of the doctors marks a significant turn in the case, underscoring alleged efforts to shield the teenager through manipulated medical reports. Public scrutiny remains intense as authorities continue their investigation into the matter.

Pressure and Coercion Allegations

In a related development, Pune Police have arrested the teenager’s grandfather. It is alleged that both the father and grandfather of the accused exerted pressure on the family driver to falsely confess to driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. Reports suggest the driver was offered money and threatened to take the blame.

Surendra Agarwal, the grandfather, was arrested on charges of “illegal confinement” of the driver. A court has remanded him in police custody until May 28. The father of the teenager, already in judicial custody related to the accident, has also been implicated in the new charges.

The Driver’s Ordeal

After the accident, the driver initially reported at the Yerawada police station that he was the one driving the car. However, further investigations revealed that the teenager was actually behind the wheel. Following his statement, the driver was reportedly taken by Vishal Agarwal and his grandfather to their bungalow, where his phone was confiscated and he was confined.

Allegations of Bribery and Threats

According to Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, the driver was coerced into giving a false statement under duress and was promised substantial rewards for assuming responsibility for the accident. The driver was offered any amount of money he wanted, but his wife managed to free him the next day. Following this, the driver provided a truthful statement, leading to the filing of an FIR against the juvenile’s father and grandfather.
