cVigil App Empowers Citizens in Pune, Records Nationwide Surge in Poll Code Complaints

Election Commission’s Digital Initiative Facilitates Swift Resolution of Electoral Violations

The Election Commission of India’s (ECI) cVigil app has emerged as a powerful tool in ensuring the integrity of elections, with a recent surge in complaints highlighting its efficacy in Pune and across the nation.

Since the commencement of the general election announcement two weeks ago, the cVigil app has amassed an impressive tally of 79,000 reported violations nationwide. Most notably, these complaints have been swiftly addressed, boasting a remarkable disposal rate of 99%, as confirmed by election officials.

A predominant focus of these complaints has been on illegal hoardings and banners, underscoring the significance of maintaining a level playing field in the electoral process. Additionally, concerns over liquor distribution and property defacement have also been reported, further emphasizing the diverse range of issues addressed by the app.

The cVigil app, leveraging digital technology, empowers citizens to report instances of electoral misconduct promptly and efficiently, thereby ensuring free and fair elections. Its designated resolution timeframe of 100 minutes enables swift action by election authorities, reducing the scope for undue influence and inducement.

Authorities across all states have been directed to categorize complaints into two lists based on resolution timeframes, with a majority of reported violations pertaining to illegal hoardings and banners. Notably, successful resolution has been achieved in a significant number of cases, including those related to the distribution of money, gifts, and liquor.

In Maharashtra, the cVigil app has played a pivotal role in addressing electoral misconduct, with 1,167 reported cases and an impressive disposal rate. This underscores the app’s effectiveness in ensuring adherence to the poll code and upholding the democratic process.
