Contaminated Harvest: Farmer’s Losses Mount Due to Lingering Fuel Leak

In a concerning turn of events, a farmer in Mhatobachi Alandi has raised alarms about fuel leakage contaminating his well water months after a reported fuel theft in the village. The farmer expressed his concerns to officials from the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), indicating that the problem has persisted for the past three months.

Despite repeated visits by representatives from the fuel company, the leak has not been completely resolved. The initial fuel theft incident led to the fuel spilling into the farmer’s well, causing significant losses. The contamination has rendered the farmer unable to cultivate crops on his approximately five-acre farmland during this period.

In response to inquiries about the company’s actions, an HPCL representative acknowledged the connection between the ongoing issue and the earlier reported fuel theft. Steps have been taken to stop the leak, and efforts are underway to support the affected farmer in the cleanup process. However, there remains a possibility that remnants of the fuel leak continue to affect the well water. Importantly, officials have verified that there is no fresh leak at the location.
