Case Filed Against Youth Congress Workers for Burning Effigy of PM Modi in Pune Protest

Pune, India – A Congress Youth Party meeting on the evening of Monday, February 26, 2024, took an unexpected turn as a demonstration staged in support of the farmers’ agitation on the Delhi-Haryana border escalated into a protest at Balgandharva Chowk on Jangli Maharaj Road. The protest reached a fervent peak when Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s effigy was set ablaze, reflecting the growing discontent towards the Modi Government.

The demonstration aimed to express solidarity with the ongoing farmers’ agitation at the Delhi-Haryana border. However, tensions quickly escalated, prompting the intervention of Senior Police Inspector Vipin Hasbanis, Sub Inspector Mahesh Bhosle, and Dattatray Sawant, who worked to quell the unrest.

The disruptive activities of the activists were promptly curtailed by authorities from Deccan Police Station. Subsequently, the identified activists, including Rishikesh Alias Bunty Baba Shelke, Prathamesh Vikas Abnave, Eshan Ahmed Khan, Murlidhar Siddharam Budharamas, and Rahul Duryodhan Shirsat, were escorted to the police station premises for further questioning.

In the aftermath of the protest, legal action has been initiated against the identified activists. The nature of the charges and potential consequences for the accused individuals will be determined as the investigation progresses.

The incident underscores the challenges faced by authorities in managing public demonstrations and protests, emphasizing the importance of maintaining order and adhering to legal avenues for expressing dissent.
