Pune: In a shocking incident that unfolded in the heart of Mangalwar Peth, a mother’s boyfriend met a brutal end at the hands of an enraged assailant. The victim, identified as 31-year-old Prateek alias Lalya Prithviraj Kamble, was brutally attacked with a floor tile and a grinding stick, leading to his tragic demise. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. in front of a woodcraft shop on Sunday.
The Faraskhana police swiftly responded to the gruesome crime, apprehending one suspect and detaining another in connection with the case. The alleged motive behind the heinous act stems from Prateek’s purported illegal relationship with the mother of the accused, Shriraj alias Sonu Bharat Patole.
According to the police complaint lodged by Prateek’s friend, Gokul Nandu Chavan, tensions between Prateek and Shriraj had been escalating due to their contentious relationship with Shriraj’s mother. The dispute had reached a boiling point, leading to frequent arguments and altercations between the two parties.
Shriraj, unwilling to accept his mother’s relationship with Prateek, harboured deep-seated resentment following a previous incident where he was violently assaulted by Prateek. Fueled by this lingering animosity, Shriraj went on to kill Prateek on the night of November 19.
On Sunday midnight, a verbal altercation erupted between Prateek, Shriraj, and one of Shriraj’s friends. In a sudden burst of violence, Shriraj seized a nearby floor tile, delivering a fatal blow to Prateek’s head. Gokul Chavan, attempting to intervene and save his friend, was thwarted by Shriraj’s accomplice, who struck Prateek with a grinding stick.
Recognising the urgency of the situation, Gokul rushed Prateek to the hospital, where, despite medical efforts, he was declared dead upon examination. The Faraskhana Police promptly registered a murder case against the duo, both of whom have prior criminal records, according to sources. The investigation is currently underway, led by Police Inspector Mangesh Jagtap.
