Bridging Futures: Pune Ring Road Project Gathers Momentum with 19 Bidders

Pune Ring Road Project Attracts 19 Bidders, Set for Multi-phase Construction

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has garnered significant interest in the construction of the Pune ring road, with nineteen companies submitting proposals for both the east and west corridors. This ambitious project, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity in the region, is poised to transform Pune’s infrastructure landscape.

According to a statement released by the MSRDC office, the construction will be executed in five distinct phases, each catering to specific segments of the ring road.

On the western side, the initial phase will encompass the construction of a 14 km stretch, followed by subsequent phases covering 20 km, 14 km, 7.50 km, and 9.50 km respectively. Meanwhile, the eastern portion will undergo development in four phases, spanning lengths of 11.85 km, 13.80 km, 21.20 km, and 24.50 km.

Tenders for the project were floated on January 17, with the deadline for submission set for March 1. On March 26, the submitted tenders were opened, marking a crucial milestone in the project’s progression.

The total length of the east and west ring road is estimated at 136 km, boasting a width of approximately 110 meters. Notably, the eastern segment spans 71.35 km, while the western counterpart covers 65.45 km.

Significant progress has been made in land acquisition for the western segment, with approximately 80 percent of the required land secured. The project entails the construction of eight tunnels, three small bridges, two large bridges, and a half-kilometer-long bridge across the backwater of the Khadakwasla dam.

Efforts are underway to commence work simultaneously in five phases, with the western ring road traversing through Bhor, Haveli, Mulshi, and Maval talukas, while the eastern counterpart will pass through Maval, Khed, Haveli, Purandar, and Bhor talukas.

While the MSRDC has allocated ₹10,519 crore for the project, concerns have been raised regarding allegations of financial impropriety during the land acquisition process. District collector Suhas Diwase emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in handling these complaints, urging officials to address them diligently to uphold the integrity of the project.

As Pune gears up for this transformative infrastructure endeavor, the ring road project promises to enhance connectivity, ease traffic congestion, and foster economic development across the region.
