BCCI Unveils Red-Ball Women’s Cricket Tournament in Pune, Set to Kick Off on March 28

In a groundbreaking move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the introduction of a red-ball women’s cricket tournament set to take place in Pune City. This development follows the successful initiation of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), underlining BCCI’s steadfast commitment to promoting and advancing women’s cricket on the global stage.

The red-ball tournament, scheduled to commence on March 28, will witness six teams vying for glory over three intense days of competition. The participating teams have been strategically divided into zones, namely North, South, East, West, Central, and North-East.

As the tournament progresses, the North and South Zone teams will lock horns in the semi-finals, with other teams striving to secure their spot through impressive performances. The grand finale is slated to unfold from April 9 to April 11, 2024, promising cricket enthusiasts an enthralling display of talent and sportsmanship.

To ensure optimal preparation and recovery for the athletes, there is an 11-day hiatus between the culmination of the Women’s Premier League and the commencement of the Red-Ball Tournament. This strategic break aims to recharge the players and maintain the momentum of women’s cricket at the highest level.

In the ongoing Women’s Premier League, Delhi Capitals (DC) currently lead the charts with four points, securing two victories out of three matches. Despite Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) also amassing four points each, DC holds the lead based on the net run rate.

Anticipation is building among cricket enthusiasts, particularly in Pune, where the matches will be held. The upcoming Red-Ball Tournament is poised to showcase the exceptional talent and competitive spirit of women cricketers, contributing to the flourishing landscape of women’s cricket in India.
