Pune Sizzles as Monsoon Bids Adieu: Week-Long Heatwave Ahead

As the monsoon season draws to a close across the state, Pune finds itself sweltering in the grip of an unrelenting heatwave. The meteorological department warns that these scorching conditions are set to persist for the next seven days. On Monday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius, surpassing the seasonal average by two degrees.

A Prolonged Heatwave:

Over the past two to three days, Pune has endured temperatures soaring above the usual seasonal averages. The maximum temperature recorded on Monday, October 9th, stood at 34 degrees Celsius—a noteworthy two-degree departure from the norm. Meteorologists project that this trend will endure for at least the coming week.

With the retreat of the monsoon from most parts of the state, dry weather conditions have become the norm. The absence of rain in the forecast only adds to the intensifying heat of the sun. Residents are finding it increasingly challenging to venture outdoors during daylight hours.

It’s worth noting that the heatwave isn’t confined to Pune alone; it extends across the entire state. Vidarbha is also grappling with scorching temperatures, with the highest temperature in the last 24 hours recorded at 37.1 degrees Celsius in Brahmapuri. Several areas in Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Marathwada have witnessed the mercury soaring above 34 degrees.

The meteorological department cautions that by next Sunday, October 15th, the maximum temperature in Pune and its surrounding areas could reach an even higher range, between 35 to 37 degrees Celsius. With no precipitation in the foreseeable future, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to endure the hot and dry week ahead.
