Pune Ganesh Festival: Police Set Guidelines for Grand Visarjan Procession

As the grand visarjan (immersion) procession marks the culmination of the Ganesh festival in Pune, the city police have issued a set of instructions for Ganesh mandals to ensure a smooth and safe event on September 28. These guidelines include limitations on the participation of dhol tasha pathaks (traditional drum troupes) and designated halting points during the procession.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandip Singh Gill has specified that each Ganesh mandal will be allowed to have only three Dhol Tasha Pathaks, consisting of 50 dhols and 15 tasha players. Furthermore, these troupes will be permitted to halt at dedicated spots along the procession route. Specifically, they will be allowed to stop at three designated locations on the Belbagh-Sevasadan-Tilak Chowk route, with a maximum of 10 minutes allocated for performances at each spot. This decision was reached through collaborative discussions between Ganesh mandals and police officials.

To ensure safety and security during the event, the city police have installed over 205 CCTV cameras along the procession route to monitor the situation. More than 9,000 police personnel, including officers, will be deployed along the procession route to maintain law and order. Additionally, a total of 17 roads typically used by Ganesh mandals for the procession will be closed to traffic.
