Pune, August 26, 2023: An unexpected twist of events has cast a shadow on the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) as a conversation implicating a member of the examination department in alleged bribery has emerged. The dialogue sheds light on instances of suspected corruption involving a student’s quest for a mark sheet.
The revelations, which came to light on a Saturday evening, have sparked a wave of discontent, prompting the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to stage a protest outside the examination department. A video, capturing the conversation and substantiating the claims, has been released for public scrutiny.
“This incident exposes a university employee caught in the act of accepting a bribe, further highlighting the growing corruption within the university,” stated ABVP in an official statement. The implicated individual, identified as Nevase, was apprehended by ABVP members while allegedly accepting a sum of three thousand rupees from a BA student named Pratham Bhandari.
The allegations have prompted ABVP representatives to engage in discussions with the Vice-Chancellor well into the night, addressing the concerning incident. Against a backdrop of challenges students face, including managing extensive syllabi in a limited time frame and grappling with delays in result declarations post-examinations, this alleged bribery case adds a layer of complexity to their academic journey.
At a time when mismanagement by colleges, professors, and examination departments has already disrupted students’ lives, this alleged misconduct has further exacerbated these concerns. The incident has raised significant questions about the university’s overall functioning and the integrity of its examination department.
Dr. Mahesh Kakade, Director of the Board of Examinations and Evaluation, has underscored a zero-tolerance stance toward bribery within the examination department. He has affirmed the department’s unwavering commitment to supporting students in pursuing appropriate legal measures and ensuring transparency in the investigation.
