In a significant move, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its intention to participate in local body elections, including the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), in Maharashtra. AAP MP Sanjay Singh made this announcement during a public event held in Pune on Monday.
The announcement was made during the Mahasankalp public meeting, organized by the Maharashtra unit of AAP. Sanjay Singh addressed the gathering, which featured several prominent AAP leaders, including Gopal Italia, the Maharashtra co-in-charge, State Vice President Vijay Kumbhar, Dhananjay Shinde, Ajit Phatke, Sandeep Desai, Navinder Ahluwalia, Riyaz Pathan, Ajit Khot, Hanumant Chate, Manish Modak, Bhushan Dhakulkar, Chandan Pawar, Kanishk Jadhav, and Mukund Kirdat, among others.
During the event, MP Singh expressed his confidence in AAP’s ability to replicate its successes in Delhi and Punjab in the state of Maharashtra. He stated, “Aam Aadmi Party has come to power in the states of Delhi and Punjab after a transformation. I believe that the same will be repeated in Maharashtra now.”
Singh also criticized the tactics employed by powerful political parties, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of undermining opposition governments through agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while installing BJP-led governments. He further alleged that the BJP had sowed divisions among people based on caste and accused industrialist Adani of wielding undue influence, asserting that “the planes flying in the sky belong to Adani, the sea belongs to Adani, the coal belongs to Adani, so Narendra Modi is only the Prime Minister of Adani.”
Additionally, Singh highlighted concerns surrounding the BJP government, including farmers’ anxieties, rising inflation affecting the common man, and widespread corruption issues plaguing the nation.
AAP’s decision to enter the local elections in Maharashtra, including the Pune Municipal Corporation, reflects their commitment to expanding their political presence in the state.
