In a distressing turn of events, a 52-year-old man, identified as Maruti Chandrappa Babanna, allegedly bludgeoned his wife, Jayashree Maruti Babanna (47), to death in the Shivajiwadi area of Moshi. The incident occurred around 3:30 pm on Sunday, prompting a police probe into the tragic incident.
Alcohol-Fueled Argument Turns Deadly
Investigations reveal that the accused, Babanna, has a history of alcohol abuse, and the couple, originally from Latur, often engaged in heated arguments over the issue. Approximately two months ago, they relocated to the city to live with their son, Balaji Babanna, who works as a supervisor at a private company.
On the fateful Sunday afternoon around 3 pm, the accused returned home in an inebriated state, sparking a quarrel with his wife. Allegedly, during the argument, Babanna used a heavy object to strike his wife’s head before fleeing the scene. A relative discovered Jayashree in a critical condition, covered in blood, and immediately informed her son.
Victim Rushed to Hospital, Police Launch Manhunt
Jayashree was swiftly taken to a hospital, but sadly succumbed to her injuries. The police have registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on the complaint filed by Balaji, the deceased’s son. The accused, Maruti Chandrappa Babanna, is currently at large, prompting the police to form teams to apprehend him.
