Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate Secures 15 Acres in Wakad for Expanding Operations

In a significant development, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerate has been allotted 15 acres of land in Wakad by the state government, marking a milestone five years after its inception. The land, owned by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), will be transferred to the police at a ready reckoner rate, according to official statements.

“The current commissionerate office location is insufficient to accommodate all departments and efficiently handle the department’s functioning. The newly allotted land, situated in the heart of the twin city, will offer convenience for administration and citizens. A well-equipped infrastructure will be established on this land soon,” stated officials.

A senior officer from the commissionerate, requesting anonymity, highlighted the significance of this allocation as the first independent piece of land given to the office. Several other requests for space, including those for police headquarters, zonal offices, and residences, are still pending.

Established on August 15, 2018, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerate has operated without independent land or a dedicated building. Currently occupying a school building owned by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), the police department pays rent to the civic body for accommodation.

The commissionerate has consistently pursued the government for space, with proposals for the allotment of eight acres in Chikhali pending. A previous decision to allocate land in Dehu Road was retracted following protests from the Sant Tukaram Maharaj temple trust.

Additionally, the department has requested 30 to 50 acres for its headquarters, suggesting two to three locations to the government. The absence of a dedicated ground forces the commissionerate to use the SRPF’s ground in Ramtekadi for events.
