PCMC Cracks Down on PNG Jewelers: Notice Issued for Operating Without Occupancy Certificate

PNG Jewelers, a prominent establishment in Nigdi, finds itself embroiled in controversy as the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) issues a notice for operating without obtaining an Occupancy Certificate. Despite concerns raised about the incomplete construction of the building, PNG Jewelers proceeded with the inauguration of its new showroom in Nigdi, prompting regulatory action and public outcry.

Makarand Nikam, City Engineer (Civil) at PCMC, shed light on the matter, emphasizing the necessity of an Occupancy Certificate for commercial operations. Nikam clarified, “The absence of an Occupancy Certificate for PNG Jewelers’ Nigdi branch has prompted the issuance of a notice. This violation is compoundable, allowing the establishment to rectify the situation by paying fines. Failure to comply will result in further enforcement action by PCMC.”

The new showroom, spanning an area of 2800 square feet, has been under construction, with significant portions of the work remaining unfinished. While groundwork for the lower floor has been completed, interior work remains ongoing, raising concerns about safety and compliance with regulatory standards.

Social media platforms became a battleground for public discourse, with users expressing outrage over the commencement of operations in the absence of necessary clearances. Questions surfaced regarding the initiation of commercial activities without tangible evidence of construction completion, prompting scrutiny of PCMC’s regulatory oversight.

In response to the uproar, a spokesperson for PNG Jewelers issued a statement, offering insights into the circumstances surrounding the showroom’s inauguration. The spokesperson elaborated, “The decision to launch a new store entails meticulous planning and coordination, involving various stakeholders. Despite assurances from the builder regarding requisite clearances, unforeseen delays occurred, leading to the launch proceeding without the necessary documentation.”

Furthermore, the statement highlighted the logistical challenges faced, particularly in coordinating with regulatory authorities during holiday periods. It emphasized the establishment’s commitment to compliance and attributed responsibility for documentation and clearances to the builder.

As the controversy unfolds, the incident underscores the importance of regulatory compliance and transparency in commercial operations, urging stakeholders to prioritize adherence to legal requirements and procedural formalities to maintain public trust and safety.
