PCMC Cracks Down on Heavy Vehicle Dumping, Imposes Heavy Fines for Riverbed Pollution

Environment Department Takes Swift Action Against Offenders Contributing to Environmental Degradation

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched a stringent crackdown on heavy vehicles involved in illegal dumping activities along the banks of the Pavana river. The influx of trucks, tractors, dumpers, tempo, and mixer trucks from various areas within the municipality has raised concerns about air pollution and environmental degradation, prompting decisive action from the Environment Department.

Under the direction of Sanjay Kulkarni, Associate City Engineer of the Environment Department, a targeted operation was conducted, resulting in the apprehension of nine vehicles belonging to individuals including Shiva Rathod, Umesh Barane, Vedant Desai, RD Vaghele, Tejas Ukke, Prakash Chaudhary, and Kantilal Pawar. These vehicles were found unlawfully filling the riverbed, contributing to adverse environmental impacts.

In response to these violations, fines amounting to Rs. 25,000 per vehicle were levied on the offenders, signaling the PCMC’s firm stance against activities detrimental to environmental preservation.

Sanjay Kulkarni, Joint City Engineer of the Environment Department, PCMC, emphasized the importance of preventing riverbed pollution and urged the public to refrain from dumping waste in these sensitive areas. He warned that strict legal action, including police complaints, would be pursued against any future offenders found engaging in similar activities.

The swift and decisive action taken by the PCMC underscores its commitment to safeguarding environmental integrity and public health. By enforcing stringent measures against illegal dumping, the municipality aims to foster a cleaner and healthier environment for present and future generations.
