Beyond Beds: The Rise of Moshi’s 850-Bed Hospital as Pune District’s Healthcare Powerhouse

In a significant stride towards enhancing healthcare accessibility, Moshi is poised to host Pune District’s second-largest hospital, featuring a robust 850-bed capacity. The approval from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee marks a pivotal moment for approximately 30 lakh residents in Pimpri-Chinchwad, addressing the rising demand for advanced medical facilities.

As the district’s largest hospital, the recently expanded Sassoon General Hospital boasts 1,290 beds. The forthcoming hospital in Moshi, with its 850-bed capacity, will claim the position of the second-largest medical facility in the district, adding a crucial layer to the region’s healthcare infrastructure.

Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCM Hospital), the existing healthcare institution in Pimpri-Chinchwad, has been grappling with increasing pressure due to population growth. In response, MLA Mahesh Landge has advocated for the establishment of a multispecialty hospital in Moshi, aligning with the healthcare needs of the Bhosari assembly constituency.

The municipal administration, upon state government approval, has awarded the construction tender for the hospital to Vascon Engineers Limited at a cost of ₹340 crore 67 lakhs 63 thousand 273. The project will unfold in two phases within the Gairaan area of Group No. 646 in Moshi.

The eight-floor hospital building in Moshi is designed to encompass a wide range of medical departments and facilities, including Out Patient Department (OPD), General Medicine, Ear Nose Throat clinic (ENT), Ophthalmology, Computed Tomography Scan (CT Scan) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) facilities, Radiology, Day Care, Sonography, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Dermatology, Gynecology, and Respiratory Diseases. Surgical units, burn care, cancer treatment, dialysis, pathology services, a blood bank, an expansive canteen, operation theatres, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) units, general medicine, and eye patient wards will also be part of the hospital’s comprehensive offerings.

MLA Mahesh Landge expressed, “The 850-bed hospital to be built in Moshi will be known as the health channel of the district. It is expected that the administration should start the work by doing the following process.”

In addition to the hospital, the municipal administration is contemplating the establishment of a Pimpri-Chinchwad Medical College, a Paramedical Courses College, and a general college due to the abundant space and facilities available at this location.
