IndiGo Faces Criticism for Ignoring Disabled Passenger on Delhi-Mumbai Flight

IndiGo Airlines is under scrutiny after disabled rights activist Virali Modi, who was flying from Delhi to Mumbai on flight 6E-864 on December 5, faced negligence and a 40-minute wait to de-board the aircraft. Virali, paralyzed since 2006, highlighted the airline’s lack of attention to passengers with disabilities.

As detailed in Virali Modi’s Twitter posts, the cabin crew overlooked her need for assistance, causing a considerable delay in her disembarkation. She expressed frustration over the crew’s apparent disregard for her situation, emphasizing that the call button was inaccessible, and communication about her requirements was mishandled.

The tweet narrates, “A helper from Indigo had come to assist me, and he was negligent as well. My legs were stiff, but he kept on pushing the aisle chair. As soon as I arrived at the baggage claim, my wheelchair was nowhere to be seen. I had to wait another 30 minutes for my wheelchair because no one had bothered to bring it up from the aircraft.”

Virali Modi further explained the disconcerting experience upon reaching her car, where the helper mishandled her personal wheelchair’s cushion, causing distress. The subsequent revelation that her specially designed cushion was missing added to the ordeal.

Despite reaching out to IndiGo’s customer care, Virali reported a lack of empathy and a prolonged wait, reflecting a customer service issue that needs attention.
