UK Edge Data Centers Get a Boost: nLighten Acquires Proximity Data Centres

nLighten, the digital infrastructure platform backed by I Squared Capital, has completed the acquisition of Proximity Data Centres, a key player in the UK’s edge data center arena. This strategic move allows nLighten to establish a firm foothold in the UK market while expanding its pan-European edge data center platform.

Proximity Data Centres brings to the table a network of ten carrier-neutral edge data centers known for their high-performance capabilities. The company has built a strong reputation for agility and successful market penetration – attributes that nLighten plans to leverage as it seeks to capitalize on the growing edge opportunities across the UK.

With this acquisition, nLighten’s pan-European edge data center platform now boasts 26 data centers, a potential capacity of 53 megawatts, and a workforce of 130 employees.

One notable feature of Proximity Data Centres is its commitment to sustainability. All ten of its data centers source 100 percent of their electricity from renewables, aligning with nLighten’s dedication to reducing the environmental impact of data centers.

In terms of data sovereignty, nLighten intends to maintain operational management of its data centers in the UK to comply with evolving European standards. This ensures that data remains within the country and aligns with local regulations.

This acquisition aligns with nLighten’s growth strategy to become a leading pan-European edge data center platform. It not only expands the company’s portfolio but also provides a solid foundation for further expansion in the UK, a mature market with substantial demand for locally distributed data centers.

Additionally, nLighten expects this move to accelerate the expansion of its product and service offerings tailored for the edge computing market. The acquisition will enable nLighten to provide customers with a comprehensive solution, leveraging a broad network of data centers across multiple European locations.
