Tata Harrier and Safari Upgraded with Lane Keep Assist: A Step Forward in Safety

Tata Motors is taking a significant step in enhancing the safety features of its flagship SUVs, the Harrier and Safari. Earlier this year, the company introduced Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to these vehicles, which included features like forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection, and lane departure warning. However, one key component was missing from this suite – lane-keep assist.

Lane-keep assist is a critical feature that detects when a vehicle is drifting out of its lane and actively intervenes in the steering to bring it back in line, even if the driver has not provided any input. Tata Motors initially faced challenges in implementing this feature, primarily because the pre-facelift Harrier and Safari models were equipped with a hydraulic power steering system, which made steering intervention difficult.

Now, with the recent facelift of these SUVs, Tata Motors has made a significant change by transitioning to an electronic power steering system. This switch opens the door to incorporating lane-keep assist into the Harrier and Safari, further enhancing their safety capabilities.

Interestingly, although lane-keep assist was not included in the features of the recently launched facelifted Harrier and Safari, Tata Motors has assured its customers that this essential safety component will be introduced through a software update. This update will be made available to the initial batch of vehicles, offering peace of mind to early adopters.

The addition of lane-keep assist is another step in boosting the safety credentials of the Tata Harrier and Safari. These SUVs have already achieved a remarkable 5-star Global NCAP rating for adult and occupant protection. Moreover, they have garnered the highest scores recorded thus far in the Safer Cars for India program, reflecting Tata Motors’ unwavering commitment to passenger safety.

Beyond the introduction of lane-keep assist, Tata Motors has also hinted at plans to roll out Over-The-Air (OTA) updates for the advanced infotainment system featured in the facelifted Harrier, Safari, and Nexon models. These updates will ensure that these vehicles stay technologically current and relevant for their owners.

As Tata Motors continues to enhance the safety and technology aspects of its vehicles, it’s clear that the company is dedicated to providing its customers with cutting-edge features and a secure driving experience.
