PMC Introduces Incentives and Lottery Scheme to Encourage Timely Property Tax Payments

Pune: In a bid to incentivize property owners and ensure timely tax payments, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has introduced a rebate scheme offering a 5-10 percent concession in general tax for those who pay the current year’s property bill, including pending dues. The civic body has urged citizens to settle their property tax obligations on or before July 31 to avail of this benefit.

Property owners within the PMC’s jurisdiction have already received their property bills for the year 2023-24. In addition to the rebate scheme, the PMC has also introduced a lottery scheme exclusively for residential, non-residential, and open plot owners. This scheme will be active from May 15 to July 31, with prizes worth up to Rs 1 crore to be awarded to the lottery winners. The prizes include five cars, 15 e-bikes, 15 mobile phones, 10 laptops, and more. No separate form is required for participation; the only condition is the payment of the entire property tax.

In a proactive measure, the PMC’s property tax department has initiated actions against defaulters of non-residential property tax since May 1. Properties belonging to these defaulters are being sealed as a consequence. So far, over 400 properties have been sealed in accordance with this action. Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ajit Deshmukh has affirmed that the PMC will continue its efforts to address non-compliance among such defaulters.

The introduction of the rebate scheme and lottery initiative by the PMC underscores its commitment to enhancing revenue collection while simultaneously providing attractive incentives to property owners. By offering a concession in general tax, the PMC aims to alleviate the financial burden on property owners and encourage them to fulfill their tax obligations promptly. The lottery scheme adds an element of excitement and potential rewards for those who comply with their tax payments within the stipulated period.

These initiatives not only contribute to the PMC’s revenue generation but also help in maintaining essential civic services and infrastructure development in the city. Furthermore, by sealing properties of non-compliant taxpayers, the PMC is taking a firm stance against tax defaulters, ensuring accountability and fairness in the taxation system.

Property owners are urged to take advantage of the rebate scheme and participate in the lottery scheme by fulfilling their property tax obligations within the designated timeline. By doing so, they not only contribute to the development of Pune but also stand a chance to win attractive prizes. The PMC’s proactive approach in addressing tax defaulters serves as a reminder of the importance of timely tax payments and compliance with civic responsibilities.

It is recommended that property owners consult the official PMC website or contact the property tax department directly for any clarifications or further information regarding the rebate scheme, lottery initiative, or tax payment procedures.
