In a momentous development within India’s railway network, Shyam Sunder Gupta has assumed the esteemed position of Principal Chief Operations Manager of Central Railway, commencing his tenure on September 5, 2023. Gupta steps into this role following the retirement of the illustrious Mukul Jain, who served with distinction until his superannuation on August 31, 2023.
A seasoned officer belonging to the 1992 batch of the Indian Railway Traffic Service, Shyam Sunder Gupta brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new responsibilities. Throughout his career, Gupta has ventured into various facets of railway operations across the nation, accumulating a diverse and impactful portfolio. Some of his notable roles include Chief Freight Transportation Manager for Central Railway, Chief Passenger Transportation Manager for Central & Western Railway, and Chief Commercial Manager (Freight Marketing) for Central Railway.
Additionally, Gupta has served as Chief Transportation Manager (Petroleum) for Western Railway and held the position of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager for South Eastern Railway in Kolkata. His remarkable career journey culminated in his role as Divisional Railway Manager of Raipur Division for South East Central Railway.
One distinguishing aspect of Gupta’s career is his unwavering commitment to excellence. He has continually sharpened his skills through active participation in various seminars and training programs. Notably, he completed the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD Singapore and furthered his learning at ICLIF in Malaysia. Before assuming his current pivotal role as Principal Chief Operations Manager for Central Railway, Shyam Sunder Gupta held the position of Chief Administrative Officer (Systems) for Northern Railway.
