In a heartbreaking incident, a 27-year-old IT professional lost his life due to drowning in the waters of Pavana dam near Lonavla on Sunday. Mayank Upadhayay, who worked in a private company at Hinjewadi, was spending the weekend with three friends when the tragedy unfolded.
Originally hailing from Panipat, Haryana, Upadhayay had been residing in Hinjewadi. The group ventured into the dam waters around 1:30 pm on Sunday, hoping to enjoy a leisurely swim. Unfortunately, the outing took a tragic turn as Upadhayay faced difficulties while swimming.
One of his friends quickly dialed the police to report the distressing situation. Responding promptly, a team of local police, accompanied by a local trekkers group, rushed to the spot to initiate a search operation.
Within 30 minutes of the distress call, the police successfully recovered Upadhayay from the reservoir. Despite administering PCR treatment on the spot, their efforts were in vain, and he was rushed to a local hospital. Tragically, doctors at the hospital declared him dead.
The police, following protocol, sent Upadhayay’s body for post-mortem and contacted his family members to convey the unfortunate news. The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the risks associated with water activities, urging individuals to exercise caution and prioritize safety during such outings.
