Satara, August 16, 2023: A peculiar incident occurred on the Satara-Pune highway as the sun’s angle, which usually guides the way through the Khambatki Ghat tunnel, dislodged and collided with a truck traversing the road. The truck bore the brunt of the collision, resulting in damages, and the driver sustained minor injuries due to the unexpected detachment of the guiding angle.
In response to the incident, traffic bound for Pune has been rerouted through Khambatki Ghat since 7 am. To ensure smooth diversion operations, transportation management has been implemented at point Y. Highway Police Officer Avinash Dere, alongside other law enforcement officials, is stationed at the tunnel to oversee the redirection process.
This occurrence is not an isolated event. Similar incidents involving loose tunnel light angles falling onto vehicles, including both cars and trucks, have been reported in the past. Despite being installed 23 years ago, certain angles have already become dislodged. Alarmingly, these angles have not undergone reevaluation or testing since their initial installation, leading to concerns about their structural integrity.
