Water Release from Nira Deoghar Dam: Pune Witnesses Increased Discharge Due to Heavy Rainfall

Pune, August 22: The Nira Deoghar dam in Pune taluka has reached its full capacity, thanks to the recent surge in rainfall in the catchment area. The dam, which was filled to 100 per cent capacity on Saturday night, has led to the discharge of 1,340 cusecs of water. This discharge includes 750 cusecs from the dam’s power plant and 590 cusecs from dam storage.

Officials have indicated that the volume of water being released may vary based on the ongoing intensity of rainfall. In response to the discharge, villages located along the Nira River have been placed on alert. Authorities have cautioned residents against entering the river basin and have advised the immediate removal of any materials or animals from the riverbed. This preventive measure aims to ensure the safety of the local population and their property during the water release process.
