Qatar Airways to Launch Boeing 777X Series: A Testament to a Strong Partnership

Flag carrier Qatar Airways (QR) is poised to become a launch customer for Boeing’s 777X series, strengthening the robust partnership between Boeing and Qatar and affirming the airline’s commitment to the aviation industry.

Qatar Airways: A Key Partner for Boeing

In an interview with The Peninsula, Kuljit Ghata-Aura, President of Boeing Middle East, Turkey, and Africa (META), emphasized the significance of Qatar as a pivotal partner for Boeing. The enduring collaboration encompasses various aspects of their business, extending from engagements with the airline, the Ministry of Defense, to the Qatar Air Force (QAF).

A Strong History of Collaboration

This strong bond between Boeing and Qatar Airways dates back to the airline’s initial order in 2006. Qatar Airways has consistently been the launch customer for Boeing’s cutting-edge and innovative products. Notably, they recently took delivery of their first 737-8 aircraft in April of this year, marking a significant milestone in their partnership.

Setting the Stage for 777X Series

Kuljit Ghata-Aura expressed Boeing’s delight in being part of Qatar Airways’ expansion strategy. The airline currently has around 120 Boeing aircraft in its fleet and has placed orders for an additional 130. These orders include some of Boeing’s most advanced and sophisticated aircraft.

“Qatar Airways is also set to become a launch customer for the 777-9, part of the 777X series, as well as the 777-8 freighter,” stated Ghata-Aura.

Advancements in Aviation Technology

These aircraft represent the pinnacle of aviation technology, offering exceptional fuel efficiency, reliability, and versatility. The 737-10, the largest member of the Max family, boasts remarkable emissions efficiency and is highly cost-effective per seat in the single-aisle category. Furthermore, it can reach 99% of destinations within that class.

Fostering Innovation and Collaboration

Boeing’s partnership with Qatar extends beyond conventional aviation and encompasses innovation and technology. Notably, their collaboration with the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) focuses on machine learning and data analysis, emphasizing the value of aircraft-generated data as a resource for innovation in the aviation industry.

In academia, Boeing collaborates closely with Qatar University on aerospace projects, particularly those related to unmanned systems. Boeing’s initiatives with Injaz Al Arab are aimed at nurturing entrepreneurship and innovation, with a particular focus on STEM fields and student engagement.

This thriving partnership showcases the enduring relationship between Boeing and Qatar Airways and their shared commitment to advancing aviation and technology.
