Heir to Fortune: The Remarkable Rise of India’s Youngest Millionaire, Ekagrah Murthy

In a remarkable gesture of generational wealth transfer, NR Narayana Murthy, the renowned founder of Infosys, has bestowed shares worth a staggering ₹240 crore upon his four-month-old grandson, Ekagrah Rohan Murthy. This unprecedented move catapults the infant into the realm of India’s youngest millionaires, sparking intrigue and admiration across the nation.

As per a disclosure filed with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), young Ekagrah now holds a substantial stake of 15,00,000 shares, equivalent to 0.04 percent ownership, in India’s second-largest information technology services company.

The transfer of shares, executed ‘off-market’, has led to a marginal reduction in Narayana Murthy’s personal stake in Infosys, diminishing from 0.40 percent to 0.36 percent, representing over 1.51 crore shares.

The arrival of Ekagrah, son of Rohan Murthy and Aparna Krishnan, was announced with joy by the Murthy family in November 2023. The name ‘Ekagrah’ symbolizes unwavering focus and determination in Sanskrit, heralding a promising future for the youngest scion of the esteemed family.

With this addition, the Murty family now embraces three grandchildren, including two granddaughters born to their daughter Akshata Murty and son-in-law Rishi Sunak, further enriching the family’s legacy and lineage.

Meanwhile, Sudha Murty, celebrated author and philanthropist, recently embarked on a new chapter of her illustrious career by taking oath as a Rajya Sabha member. Expressing her commitment to her parliamentary duties, Murty expressed eagerness to delve deeper into the subjects she intends to champion in the Upper House.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nomination of Sudha Murty to the Upper House on International Women’s Day underscored her exemplary contributions to social work, philanthropy, and education. Her induction into the distinguished ranks of the Rajya Sabha reflects national recognition of her outstanding achievements and unwavering dedication to public service.

As Sudha Murty embraces her new role as a parliamentarian, her journey serves as an inspiration for aspiring changemakers, highlighting the transformative power of dedication, compassion, and lifelong commitment to social betterment.
