This decision comes in the wake of derogatory comments made by certain ministers, who have now been suspended, regarding India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Lakshadweep. The move aligns with EaseMyTrip’s commitment to national solidarity.
Nishant Pitti, the co-founder and CEO of EaseMyTrip, confirmed the suspension through a statement posted on the company’s official social media handle. “In solidarity with our nation, EaseMyTrip has suspended all Maldives flight bookings,” read the post, emphasizing the company’s dedication to upholding national interests.
EaseMyTrip has been at the forefront of promoting domestic tourism, launching the #ChaloLakshadweep campaign to encourage travel to the scenic Lakshadweep islands. Prashant Pitti, one of the founders, expressed the beauty of Lakshadweep in comparison to other exotic destinations. On January 4, he posted on social media, stating, “Water & beaches of Lakshadweep are as good as Maldives/Seychelles. We at EaseMyTrip will come up with crazy special offers to promote this pristine destination that our PM Narendra Modi has recently visited.”
The decision to suspend Maldives flight bookings reflects the tour company’s stance on supporting the #ExploreIndianIslands initiative, which gained momentum after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep. Notably, several Bollywood celebrities, including Salman Khan, John Abraham, Tiger Shroff, and Shraddha Kapoor, have joined the chorus in endorsing the campaign, further emphasizing the importance of exploring and promoting the diverse beauty of Indian islands.
As EaseMyTrip takes a stand in response to diplomatic tensions, the company continues to actively champion domestic tourism and support the government’s efforts to boost travel within the country.
