WhatsApp Innovates with AirDrop-Style File Sharing: Testing a New Dimension in Messaging

In its ongoing quest for innovation, WhatsApp is reportedly testing a novel file-sharing feature that mirrors the convenience of AirDrop and Quick Share functionalities. According to details shared by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp aims to introduce a seamless file transfer experience for users, utilizing Bluetooth connectivity between devices.

This potential feature allows users to share files of up to 2GB in size, presenting an alternative method for sending files within chats. While the idea seems promising, the current preview indicates that users must follow a set of steps to initiate the transfer. The process involves shaking the phones to activate file sharing, ensuring both users are in WhatsApp’s designated Share files section, which is likely to be introduced in the beta and full versions.

During the transfer, users must keep the tab open until the process is complete, maintaining a connection between devices. To preserve privacy, WhatsApp plans to implement end-to-end encryption, concealing phone numbers during the transfer. Notably, the transfer process will remain invisible to non-WhatsApp contacts in the users’ vicinity.

WhatsApp’s commitment to introducing innovative features continues to evolve, with recent updates including the integration of status updates on WhatsApp web. Users with the WhatsApp web beta version 2.2353.59 on their desktops can explore this new Status update feature, located at the top-left of the WhatsApp web interface.

As WhatsApp explores AirDrop-inspired file sharing and enhances its web capabilities, users can anticipate a richer and more dynamic messaging experience.
