Spotify Introduces Shared Volume Feature for Group Sessions

Spotify, the popular music streaming platform, has unveiled a new shared volume control for its group session feature. This new feature aims to provide users with greater control over the volume during group listening sessions.

In a community blog post, Spotify announced the launch of the shared volume control, which allows guests in a group session to control the volume if they are sharing a compatible speaker. The platform acknowledges the importance of giving users the ability to adjust the volume according to their preferences while listening to music.

Furthermore, Spotify emphasizes that it wants to ensure the host has the option to determine the level of control guests have over the volume. This customization feature allows hosts to tailor the group session experience to their liking.

Group session is a Premium-only feature that was initially introduced in 2020. It enables groups of two to five people to listen to music simultaneously by sharing a “join” link through messaging apps or social media. Both the host and guests have the ability to pause, play, skip, and select tracks in the queue. Additionally, they can add their own choices using the standard controls. Any changes made by one person are immediately reflected on all participant devices.

Earlier reports suggested that Spotify may bring the group session feature to its desktop version in the near future. The company has been actively working on improving the desktop experience, recently rolling out redesigned ‘Your Library’ and ‘Now Playing’ views. This revamp aims to enhance the desktop experience, making it the optimal way to explore, curate, listen to, and organize music on a computer or web browser.

In a separate development, Spotify informed its users who subscribed to its Premium service through Apple’s in-app purchase system that it will no longer support this payment method. This change signals a shift in the company’s approach to payment processing.

With the introduction of the shared volume control feature, Spotify continues to enhance the group session experience, giving users more control and customization options. Whether listening with friends or family, users can now adjust the volume to suit their preferences, creating a more enjoyable and personalized music streaming experience.
